Mombasa–Juba road freight, 40 ft container

All-in road freight rate for one 40 ft container from Mombasa port to Juba over the 1,740 km Mombasa–Tororo–Elegu–Nimule corridor, in US dollars.

Unit: USD per 40 ft container · Measurement: PRICE · Scope: CORRIDOR · Comparability group: FREIGHT_USD_PER_40FT_MOMBASA_JUBA

What this is not

Almost every serious error in operational data is a category error rather than an arithmetic one. These are the things this indicator shares a unit with and must never be combined with.

  • A per-tonne rate. This is per container, whatever it holds.
  • Transit time. The source records 12–14 days separately; a rate is not a schedule.
  • Any other corridor. Kampala–Juba, Khartoum–Renk and the river route are different routes with different economics, none of which SSIP holds a rate for.

How current a reading has to be

Current within 90 days, usable within 270 days, measured against the 2026-09-23 build rather than against the time you read this page. A static deployment cannot re-age itself, so the build date is the honest anchor.

Freight contracts, warehouse leases, wage scales and fixed statutory fees are negotiated on quarterly or annual cycles. Treating a two-month-old lease rate as out of date would discard a figure that is still exactly what a tenant would pay.

What SSIP says about it

  • Mombasa–Juba road freight, 40 ft container: 4,850 USD per 40 ft container, recorded 2026-09-10 by Association of South Sudan Freight Forwarders Ledger. Inside this indicator's 90-day currency window as of 2026-09-23.
Rule: Take the most recent dated observation bound to this indicator and classify its age against the indicator's own freshness policy (90 days current, 270 days usable — Freight contracts, warehouse leases, wage scales and fixed statutory fees are negotiated on quarterly or annual cycles. Treating a two-month-old lease rate as out of date would discard a figure that is still exactly what a tenant would pay.).
Does not establish: That the condition still holds today. This is the most recent reading SSIP holds, not a statement about 2026-09-23. A per-tonne rate. This is per container, whatever it holds.

What SSIP does not hold

  • One corridor, one forwarder association ledger, one date.

How to read this

Every figure on this page carries an evidence state — Verified, Operational, Announced, Estimated, Inferred, Disputed, Simulated, Reference or Unavailable — and each state has a stated definition. SSIP does not present an estimate as an observation, and it does not record a missing value as zero.
