How a change is classified

Significance is a score a reader can recompute. The bands are HIGH_IMPACT ≥ 70, SIGNIFICANT ≥ 45, NOTABLE ≥ 25, ROUTINE ≥ 0, and every change publishes the factors that produced its score.

Confidence is categorical, never a number SSIP invented: CHANGED, EVIDENCE_REVISED, CONTRADICTION_DETECTED, NEWLY_OBSERVED detections are labelled CONFIRMED, SUPPORTED, PROVISIONAL, DISPUTED, SCENARIO or UNKNOWN, with the factors that set the label.

Causality tops out at Possible mechanism without a human review. Evidence establishes the mechanism and rules out the obvious alternatives. Requires a human to record it; no automated path in SSIP can reach this rung.

How to read this

Every figure on this page carries an evidence state — Verified, Operational, Announced, Estimated, Inferred, Disputed, Simulated, Reference or Unavailable — and each state has a stated definition. SSIP does not present an estimate as an observation, and it does not record a missing value as zero.
